Dansguardian Installation [Solved]

Postby athanasia on Tue Jun 30, 2009 3:00 pm

Hello,

I have installed dansguardian on a proxy and I added some sites and IPs on the exceptionsitelist and the exceptioniplist.
I tryed to set the proxy on the internet options of my pc but it doesn't seem to work.
Can you please advise me what I should do in order to make it work.

Thank you for your time.

Can you give us more details about you setup. Which distro you are using? Are you building dansguardian from source or have you install it from the repositories? Is squid working when dansguardian is off?

Hi again,

Thank you for your quick reply.

We have installed dansguardian on CentOS 5.3 building it from source. Squid is stopped…

That could be the problem. Dansguardian cooperates with a web-proxy in order to work at all. Usually that web proxy is squid but any correctly configured web proxy would do. First stop dansguardian and try to make squid work. After that start dansguardian and try to make it work through squid.

Hi,

Squid is working now and I started DansGuardian.

This is what we have on the Dansguardian.conf file:

# the port that DansGuardian listens to.
filterport = 8080

# the ip of the proxy (default is the loopback - i.e. this server)
proxyip = 127.0.0.1

# the port DansGuardian connects to proxy on
proxyport = 3128

Is anything else that I need to do to make DansGuardian work through squid?

Thanks,
Athanasia

Sorry to bother again :)

I entered proxy's ip as HTTP proxy and port 8080 on the internet options of thy pc but it doesn't limit the web browsing on the exceptionsitelist I have entered.

What am I doing wrong?

Well it doesn't do that by default. Dansguardian is an advanced content filter that besides blacklist and whitelist it checks the contents of a url/page according to the specified rules. I am not sure if this is possible but maybe if you would try a generic blacklist e.g: *.com, *.net etc and give the urls you need in the whitelist. But if all you need are simple whitelist/blacklist rules you can also use squid-guard instead.

have you added dansguardian in squid.conf??
the exceptionsitelist and exceptioniplist they will not block anything. Actually you will have to define the blocking sites in you blacklists. you can download bloackable sites from here. put the sites that you would like to block in lists/blacklists/"dir of the category"/urls, ex. /etc/dansguardian/lists/blacklists/ads/urls .
exceptionsitelist and exceptioniplist they are used to exclude some sites,ip's or url's from dansguardian blocking mechanisms. so dont except that the sites that you have put there will be blocked!!

if you can post squid.conf and dansguardian.conf im sure that we will be able to help you with it!
It's only funny until someone gets hurt, then it's hilarious!
